In the “Pipetting” menu, you can set several options according to the needs of your application. These pipetting parameters are organized in four sections: Configuration, Advanced, Automation and Guidelines.
Under the “Advanced/Pipetting” section in the “Pipetting” menu, you can set the pipetting mode you want to apply.
You can choose between:
Forward pipetting: This mode aspirates the selected volume of liquid and dispenses it with the blow out function. Recommended for aqueous liquids, liquids containing small amounts of detergent or proteins and solvents.
Reverse pipetting: This mode aspirates the selected volume as well as an excess volume. Recommended for biological, foaming and viscous liquids.
Repetitive mode pipetting: This mode aspirates the total volume, as well as an excess volume then repetitively dispenses equal volumes of liquid, while the extra is discarded. Recommended in long pipetting series and microplate dispensing where the same volume is dispensed from one source into multiple destinations.
The default value for the “Pipetting mode” is: “Forward” pipetting.
Besides the pipetting mode you can also choose whether or not you want to apply blow-out, by (un)checking the “Blow-out” checkbox. Blow-out uses and extra volume of air to push out any remaining liquid that drips down in the tip after the dispense. It is advised to activate such option when you handle reagents that are viscous like water, or easily form bubbles, but be sure to not use this option when dispensing above a consumable to avoid splashing and the possibility to cause contamination.
The default value for the “Blow-out” checkbox is “Un-checked”.
